IDEOLOGICAL RACISM

The racism embraced by the progressive left and the Democrat Party, while as malicious, bigoted, and demonizing as the racism of groups like the Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan, is nonetheless different. It is different in ways that enlarge the scope of its destructive agendas and make it a threat not just to the group it stigmatizes but to the society as a whole.

Omar’s current husband, for example, is white, a miscegenation not possible between a Klan member and a black. On the other hand, the condemnation of all whites on the basis of their skin color is the same. “White identity is inherently racist; white people do not exist outside the system of white supremacy,” according to Robin DiAngelo, one of the leading “diversity, equity, and inclusion” trainers and best-selling author of White Fragility. DiAngelo’s characterization is standard for the so-called diversity industry.

On the other side of the equation, by erasing individuals—their attitudes, intentions, and achievements—the new “intersectional” racists convert all non-whites and non-males into victims, who can’t be held accountable for their actions and fictions. In the words of Ilhan Omar, a particularly aggressive anti-Semite, “I think I know a little bit about discrimination. I face it every single day. I carry multiple identities that are constantly, constantly being discriminated against.”58

Omar stated this on the floor of the Minnesota House, well before she became a congresswoman. She said it in the course of opposing a resolution to condemn a terrorist-sponsored boycott of Israel. Her rationale? The terrorist claim that Israel is an “apartheid,” state, oppressing Arab Muslims. In fact, Israel’s Arab Muslims have more rights and freedoms as Israeli citizens than the inhabitants of any Arab or Muslim state. Israel is the only non-apartheid state in the Middle East. Under the Palestinian Authority, for example, the sale of land to a Jew is punishable by death.59

Omar and her supporters use their “marginalized identities” to create a veneer of virtue around their end goal, which is to destroy the Jewish state and impose a leftist ideology on Americans. As Ibram X. Kendi, another leader of the movement, has defined its binary universe in his best-selling book How to Be an Anti-Racist: “There is no such thing as a not-racist idea, only racist ideas and anti-racist ideas.” In other words: Agree with us or you’re a racist.60 This is the ideological prescription for a totalitarian state, and it is the dominant creed of American progressives today.

The instrumental character of the new racism makes it a weapon not just against individuals but against America’s social order itself, and its grounding in individual accountability and freedom. By focusing on structures and group abstractions like races, genders, and classes, and undefined terms like “marginalized” and “oppressed,” progressivism deflects attention from the real world and its complexities, in favor of its own invented one, a fictional melodrama it can manipulate to its own ends.

Omar’s critical biographer, Benjamin Weingarten, describes the result:

Omar’s 5th Congressional District has long been led at the national, state, and local levels by progressives.
